i have lived in Rowville for over 30 years and watched it clogged up over the past 10 years to the point we try not to travel at certain times. its not the lack of freedom i first moved here for. i can only see this as a positive move forward to allow groth & not strangulation .
Stop talking start building, if we don’t get started soon costs will blow out even more, land required should at least be getting earmarked now. The Wellington Rd station looks the best outcome, it will keep traffic out of back streets and save on extra costs and disruption to get it to stud park.
It will make magnificient change for eastern residents.
I’m dying for it. I have to go through Monash University via Wellington road from Rowville, that’s such a pain, and I just think why there is no train for such big university as well.
Excellent presentation.
A couple of observations;
1. The 2004 cost would have had the value projected with inflation impacts so to state it is 2004 dollars is not 100% correct just as the 2012 cost projection would take into account the inflationary impacts over the 4 year construction period and value it accordingly.
2. The Stud Park option makes the most sense, bus interchange, car parking, shopping centre and police station, however it could be cost prohibative and better to secure the rail line to Wellington Rd rather than lose the concept all together. So presenting two options allowing the State Govt some room to move could be a wise strategy.
3. Ensuring the area is not land locked providing a way for the younger population to travel for work / pleasure ensures the youth do not become negative and destructive out of an inability to get to the city and other major destinations. This is really important when you consider crime, vandelism and social cohesion.
4. When considering the value of the concept and stations, I can only think back to the Epping station where 35+ years ago it really only supported a local high school so really two times per day yet it had a basic service (every 40 mins)and this grew with the development of the area. Today it is a thriving station and they are looking at extending the line. In addition it now has maintenance services facility there as well. This would not have been possible without a vision of what is possible.
The same applies here with a longer term vision of connecting with Ferntree Gully, Glen Waverly and Dandenong make a lot of sense as an integrated transport Metro style model. It has to start somewhere if it is to grow into something we can all be proud of.
Thanks,
We do not need a railway line at Rowville. The buses are great and just need to be upped on Sundays. Keep that festation of metal and filth and congestion off our beautiful residential Rowville. Most people here have cars . There is no room for more congestion here. No railway here please. Just improve the bus services to connecting railways. Boronia, Ferntree gully stations even Glen Waverley are all festered with noise, chaoos and dirtiness.
Dear Bassie – Rowville residents need a fast rail line – My daughter travesl to Footscray every week day and then get themselves to night shift jobs at Knox City – It takes them over 4 hrs of travel each day – If there was one train service it would at least halve this travel time – She also waits on unsafe bus stops in all weather conditions – outside Dandenong Station 3 days a week waiting for connecting bus services – Its ridiculous!! that you think that we just need more buses – We dont just go shopping on Sundays- rowville needs a rail If your worried about pollution a train would stop the amount of one person travellers in cars and reduce the congestion on our major roads- Ideally a monorail would be the answer but I would expect this would be extremely expensive.
