Guidelines

We encourage you to get involved, talk to us and each other about the study, its findings and the outcomes of the investigation.

We think these guidelines will enhance your experience as well as the study’s consultative and collaborative process.

Consultation

The Rowville Rail Study is taking a collaborative and involving approach to community consultation. We are guided by a desire to share findings, deliberations, results and investigations as they happen.

As such we ask for patience with inaccuracies and trust in a transparent process. For example, an idea, operational issues or assumption at the start of the investigation may eventually be shown to be wrong or not viable by the end of study.

We would like to share that process with you, the community, but ask you to understand that ‘what we start with might not be where we finish’.

Our intent is to create the space for dialogue and discussion to facilitate community input and engagement from the outset of the study not just consult on the findings at the end. To do that we request some awareness that we will make mistakes.

Guidelines

Civility

Participate in a respectful and civil way. Consider the positions and conclusions of others. Read through the information on the site and the other comments to help inform your own comments.

Criticize ideas, not people

While critical engagement with the study is encouraged, please do not make personal attacks anywhere on this site. Comment on content, not on the contributor.  Always respect the views of other participants even if you don’t agree with them. Debate is great, just keep it constructive.

Self-manage

Be disciplined in your interactions. If you feel that someone has insulted you, report their comment to the moderator. Don’t perpetuate the dispute. Don’t SHOUT or use CAPS. Please don’t use profanity.

Material which infringes other copyrights must not be added. Do not add content to this site if you think that doing so may be a copyright violation.

Relevancy

Please keep conversations relevant. Off-topic comments will be removed in order to keep the thread on track. Choose one topic under which to post each of your unique comments. Don’t cut and paste the same comment into lots of different topics. Ideas that fall outside the scope of these targets will be moved to an “off topic” category.

Please use your real name when registering. A consultative process requires trust and open and honest communication. Sock-puppetry, multiple registrations or aliases are not an acceptable form of behaviour on this site.

Respect people’s privacy

Please do not post personal information about other people (including their contact information) on the public forum or associated social media sites. Never post personal information about another forum participant.

Offensive Language

Hateful, discriminatory, threatening, defamatory, racist, sexist, obscene, pornographic, bullying, vilifying and homophobic language will not be tolerated. A conservative approach will be taken to any ‘doubtful’ or ‘grey language’.

Moderation

This is a moderated forum. Moderators from the study team review comments and ideas to ensure they adhere to the rules. Our intent is not to stifle conversation, remove controversial ideas or comments that are critical, but to create a civil space for dialogue and discussion that can inform the investigation conclusions.

Comments that do not adhere to the moderation rules will be removed and you will be notified of this by email and by a message left on the site.
